First the bamboo slats don't actually block the light; when the sun shines though them I can see the sun through it just fine.
The second problem is that the blinds were not properly sized for the length. Even when pulled up, there is easily 12 inches of window still blocked and this just makes it look messy.
I have dreamed of getting cellular blinds for the windows in our house, but they are expensive. Part of the cost is that they have to be custom made since of course none of my windows fit the stock size. I was super excited when I discovered that Home Depot offered cut to size cellular blinds - and they were cordless! The color choices were basically none (as in two choices: tan cordless or white corded). The color was a nice neutral so off we went to the store.
Here is an example of how the blinds have been for 5 years. Sun rays came through the slits and excess blind bunched up at the bottom.
I love how they look now. The light is nicely filtered and the kitchen is actually brighter than it was before. They were also easy to install; simply screw the bracket into the top of the window and then snap in the blind!

Love the new blinds you got! I can definitely see why you didn't like the bamboo ones. We have white wood blinds and we love them!
ReplyDeleteLove the updated look! We have 2" faux wood (white) blinds that we really love. Don't worry about being behind .... we've lived here almost 7 years and I just order window treatments (aka curtains) for the bedrooms LAST WEEK. Yeah, I'm pathetic!!!!!
