Potato Harvest

Brad & I planted some potatoes back in the spring.  The plants grew over the summer and each time we saw some green we covered it up with more dirt (until they grew taller than the containers). This weekend, we decided to harvest one of the containers and see what we had grown.  I was pleasantly surprised with how many potatoes we got and will be trying this again.  Technically there was a little pouch that we could reach in to harvest the potatoes; however, we found it was just easier to dump the entire thing into a wheelbarrow and sift through the dirt.

We only emptied one of the containers; I'm hoping that if we wait another month or so, some of the little baby ones will get bigger.  Most likely these potatoes are going to be used in a pot roast (along with some carrots from our garden) this week for dinner.  Depending how many we have left over there might be some mashed potatoes in the future as well.

Brad and I are working on some ideas for next year's planting including possibly getting some wine barrels or other sort of tower.  Does anybody out there grow potatoes? How do you grow yours?
