This past weekend Brad and I spent the weekend in Long Beach, Washington. This was the 6th annual trip with friends from elementary school. The trip was a bit different being confined to my scooter but still an amazing trip.
The first night of the trip we enjoyed some sparklers around the campfire. This picture was completely spontaneous and shows exactly why we are all scared when Christie is around fire.
Saturday we started the morning down on the beach. While others flew kites, I watched from my camp chair. Unfortunately, when we went to leave the beach we discovered that the battery was dead. Tyler had some jumper cables in his car so Barry brought them down and got our car back up and running. We were glad that Tyler had them because we weren't quite sure how AAA would respond to jumping our car on the beach.
Saturday was also Brad and my 6th wedding anniversary. He was able to get the bakery that did our wedding cake to make the same cake for our anniversary (it was decorated differently, but the same white cake/raspberry filling/marzipan topping). I heart marzipan...yum!
This golden retriever showed up last year while we were down here. We were all excited when Jackson wandered over to our campfire. This year, he brought a little friend along. Every so often, Jackson would wander over, give us cute looks and hope that somebody would drop some food. We can tell that Jackson is old but we hope that he continues to visit us for the next few years.
Saturday and Sunday we went into town for a bit. There was a sand castle competition on the beach, we attempted to check out the sand castles but I could only get so far, even on the wet, compacted sand. You can see in the picture below that I got a bit sunburnt (my forehead is still a bit red).
Alicia from Quirktastic Adventures brought these amazing Pudding Shots.
Ingredients:
- 16 oz. cool whip
- 1 large (double) box of instant chocolate pudding
- 3/4 cup of kahlua
- 1/4 cup of vodka
- 1 package gummy worms
- Oreo cookies
Directions:
- Combine pudding and cool whip
- Add in the alcohol
- Crush Oreo cookies and sprinkle on top
- Push gummy worm halfway into mixture
I'm interested to try different variations on this recipe (maybe butterscotch?)
All of us are already counting down the days til next year's trip. We all realize that hanging out with friends from elementary school is unusual but we wouldn't have it any other way.
that first picture is hilarious and priceless!

Oh, man, glad that jumping the car battery worked to get it going again! Car trouble on vacation is like my worst nightmare. But if the trouble is easily fixed it isn't so bad.
