Confessions of a Messy Person

I am, in absolutely no way, a clean freak.  Everything is organized in a messy way, and about 95% of the time, I can picture exactly where in the piles an item is located.  One of my goals this year was to keep the kitchen counter clean and empty.  So far…not so good.  This counter in particular becomes the dumping grounds for just about everything when I walk in the door.  I have been pretty good about keeping the mail organized through this system but there are other papers and things that also end up living on the counter.  For the next month, I’m going to try to actually keep this counter clean.  I’ve created a “cleaning schedule” in Excel that I’m going to try and stick with.  I printed and laminated the schedule so as I do the item each week I can cross it off and then reuse it the following week.  I’ve included basic items like clean the shower, washing towels and vacuuming; however, I didn’t include things like dishes or general laundry since that gets done whenever the washing machine or dishwasher has a full load.

Here is my plan for the next month.  Each Tuesday I am going to do a post about how I am doing keeping this area clean and also give some sort of cleaning tip that I have found through pinterest or trial and error.  My theory is that knowing I have to post the update each week will keep me caught up on it and then by the end of the month it will be habit.  I can hope right?

How about all of you, do you have any method for keeping areas organized and put away?  For those of you, who are naturally clean, remember that some of us weren't born with that gene.

  1. Good luck with the cleaning schedule! I'm excited to see how it turns out. I know exactly what you mean about being the "clean messy person". I always have an organized mess and I'll get mad at my husband for moving a book and he'll be like "It was just laying on the floor" and I say "Yes but I knew exactly where on the floor it was!" Ha! Kinda funny I guess. Anyway, I just found your blog and have loved looking around and getting to know you better. I'm excited to follow along!

  2. No, I know a lot of things that don't work:) I've been in a minimalist mood lately, much learned from Tyler of course. So I just throw stuff away. I won't regret it until my outlook changes. Then I'll be sad...
